Day 52...Thursday, September 4, 2008...Following the Columbia River Gorge...Mt. Hood

We headed out of Portland pretty early this morning en route to Hood River, Oregon. Not far out of Portland, we got the first of many spectacular views of the Columbia River and the gorge that it passes through for miles on end straddling the Oregon/Washington border.
While the views were spectacular, the road itself was more of the "edge of cliff, no guardrail, steep drops" kind that I seem to travel on most frequently during this trip.
During the way, we got some great photos of several of Oregon's (and the U.S.'s) biggest waterfalls.
We got to Hood River late in the afternoon and stopped for a nice dinner at 8th Street Bistro.
After dinner, we headed south toward Mount Hood. Although this was technically out of our way, it gave us the opportunity to see some beautiful forest areas and get close (very) to Mount Hood itself.
