Bill & Ed's Excellent Adventure...Day 20...Monday, July 4, 2011...Independence Day!

This morning, we're ALL sleeping late...I'm not up until well after 9:00AM...and the coffee is ready. We had planned to set out today for our first day of Nova Scotia camping, but the weather is not cooperating...it's heavily overcast and the forecast calls for a day of steady rain...not a day for hiking or, more importantly, setting up a new camp (and tent).
So...we reach an "Executive Decision" to postpone our departure and spend the day catching up on blogs, Facebook, etc., as well as visiting some more local sites. After a quick stop at the bank, we head to a nice little restaurant for lunch...another round of fried clams and coconut cream pie for me!
Following lunch, we spend an hour or two at the local Yarmouth museum...a fascinating look back at the history of the region...fishing, ship wrecks, the whole story. Then it's off to the town of Chebogue, where the earliest settlers arrived here in the 1760's. Near Chebogue Point, there's an old cemetery with headstones dating to the early 1700's...quite the walk on a misty day.
We're now back at Brenda's...it'll be a light dinner tonight after a heavy lunch. We're packing things up tomorrow for our trip to Blomedon Provincial Park. This will be our base camp for man travels in the days ahead.
We'll have a small "Fourth of July" celebration later...nothing big...we are, after all, "colonists" in this neck of the woods.
