Day 50...Tuesday, September 2, 2008...Portland Grooming

I expected to like Portland...and I do, although after awhile, I've noticed a certain degree of "spaciness" among the residents. I do not mean this in any negative sense...there's just a different "feel" here.
I made an appointment to get my hair cut at a place called "HairM" (an entirely intentional play on words). They couldn't work me in until 2:00PM or so...so...I walked a few blocks to a restaurant called "Veritable Quandry" (aka "VQ"). I had a great lunch there...a "Lyon-style" salad with butter lettuce, cheddar cheese, bacon and a poached egg. That went particularly well with a few glasses of local Oregon Pinot Noir.
After lunch, Ashley cut my hair. You might wonder what could be significant about a haircut...well...Ashley was only the seventh person to ever cut my hair (my father, two barbers at military school, a gal in South Bend, a guy named Ivan Pendl in Birmingham, and my current gal, Melissa). Ashley did an excellent job as evidenced by the "before and after" photos.
After lunch, I spent a few hours walking around the city...sampling local wine along the way. I had planned to stop in at the "Duck Store" (kvack!), but they had moved to a new location...Ed and Molly take note! I noticed lots of local art work during my walk...sculptures, posters, banners...and some embedded tablets along the street with quotations from some of my favorite authors and poets...a very pleasant town, this Portland.
After my walk, I decided to take a two-hour nap that ended up a six-hour nap...apparently it was time to "recharge"!
