"The Way West"...Day 5...Sunday, June 17, 2012

Even after my late night, I'm still up at 7:00AM this morning. Even with only three hours or so of sleep, Roger is up as well...and he's got coffee.
Over the next hour or so, people emerge (slightly dazed) from tents, campers, trucks and cars. And, as big as the festivities were yesterday, there's more to come this Sunday morning.
At 7:30AM or so, Roger is already at work on a huge gas griddle in the garage. Before the morning is over, he'll have cooked up 20 pounds of fried potatoes, 15 pound of bacon, 20 pounds of side pork (uncured bacon) and about 15 pounds or so of handmade venison sausage. And in the dining area, there are huge bowls of scrambled eggs...egg casseroles...French Toast cooked to order...several women mixing up fresh buttermilk pancake batter and loading up big platters with pancakes. It's about as good a breakfast as you could ever want.
I think that this is a day that Roger looks forward to all year. Today, he is "Master" of the griddle...the "King" of short order cooks. He does not finish cooking until well after noon.
Most of yesterday's guests have returned this morning for breakfast. But...as the day wears on, people start to leave...slowly, but finally. Some stay for a massive cleanup effort. And by 2:00PM or so, everything's been cleaned, stacked and put away.
Now, the few remaining are taking naps...or, in my case, blogging away with my tiny netbook.
This has been a great few days...to be in the warmth of many good friends before setting off for the rest of my trip...most of which will be spent in solitude

.
Tomorrow, I'm off in the morning for the town of Medora next to Teddy Roosevelt National Park...back to the camping life.
