"North to Alaska"...Day 11...Friday, June 14, 2013

Nobody "sleeps in" here. At 6:00AM, I'm the last one up. Roger and cousin Bill have already made coffee and are hard at work on breakfast...fried eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, toast, milk, coffee.
After that hearty breakfast, we're ready for the days work. It's a "whirl" of cleaning and organizing. We clean and set up several dozen banquet tables and many dozens of chairs. We move and clean up a huge gas griddle for cooking. The garage gets set up as a cooking area. Don and Roger spend hours mowing the acres and acres of lawn. Around noon, Mickie calls us in for lunch...sloppy joes, chips, pickles, juice, milk...cake for dessert.
Then it's back to work. It goes on and on like this all day...with more people arriving all the time to pitch in...some of Mickies relatives arrive from Kansas and Missouri...motor homes arrive by the hour.
It's a windy, cold and blustery day...there's even a brief bit of rain. But everything should be good for tomorrow.
Finally, around 7:00, we knock off for the day. Soon, we've settled in for an evening of cocktails and good conversation. At dusk, we get an hour and a half or so of "mosquito time". Don had a plane fly over and spray on Thursday, but the mosquitoes here are big, plentiful, and very hungry. We spray ourselves often, but we all still get bit up pretty bad.
It is not a late night...lots of things left to do before the party starts tomorrow.
