"North to Alaska"...Day 13...Sunday, June 16, 2013

Even after all of the work and the late night last night, most everybody is up and about when I roll out of the camper around 7:00AM.
The party is not over...not by a long shot. There remains the biggest breakfast imaginable. When I grab a cup of coffee and head for the garage, Roger is already busy cooking at the huge gas griddle...and Cousin Bill is right there at his side.
40 is the "magic number" of the day...40 lbs. of bacon, 40 lbs. of side pork, 40 lbs. of potatoes...along with 30 dozen eggs and 20 lbs. of venison sausage. Meanwhile, in the "other" garage, ladies are cooking up fresh pancakes...French toast...regular toast...donuts.
People stream back into the driveway and head to the garage to eat. The crowd is smaller, but not by a whole lot.
Soon, the cooking is done. Roger and cousin Bill are covered with grease...they can no longer see out of their glasses. Gallons upon gallons of "waste grease" get taken out and dumped in the burn barrel.
Later, when that last guest is consuming that last piece of side pork...the work starts all over again. Now...everything that we took out, cleaned and set up on Friday has to taken down, cleaned and put away. That work carries on well into the afternoon and early evening.
Around 5:00, Mickie calls everyone in for an early dinner...ham and turkey sandwiches and LOTS of leftovers.
Finally, around 7:00PM, we can call it quits for the day. We sit around Roger's camper...drinking beer. We build a fire...grill some hot dogs. But everybody is pretty much exhausted. Roger and I make it until 11:00...then off to bed.
The party is officially over. What an event!
